Located in Haute-Savoie, The Grand Massif ski region is an hours drive from Geneva and consists of the 5 towns of Morillon, lls Carroz d'Araches, Samoens and Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval and Flaine. All have a unique character of their own, traditional alpine charm, (bar Flaine which is a modern contemporary town) and are great for relaxing and getting in some serious snow action. The region is ideal for families and children as it is well equipped with lots of facilities set in a safe environment.
The region has 133 runs (15 green, 55 blue, 51 red and 14 black), totalling 265 km of slopes, and suits a range of abilities from beginners to advanced. You can choose from wide-open runs to Alpine trails, and all without the queues and crowds! The instructors are bi-lingual locals who give you a really warm welcome.
The 3 larger resorts also host 'Jam Parks' www.jampark.com - freestyle snow parks that include tables and rails, and are designed for different levels of 'freestylers'. Many a competitions and events are organised over the season.
The range is open for the winter season until the 23rd April 2006.

This beautiful town has rich heritage and has really preserved its charm and character - resisting any mass tourist projects. Only resort classified "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire' by the 'Caisse des Monuments Historiques'. Unlike most resorts it also thrives throughout the year which is good news for the many local produce shops owned and served by the friendly locals, offering a range of cheese, meats and chocolates!
Samoens' ski area is 1600 metres high, and can be reached in 8 minutes via the 8 seater cable car 'Le Grand Massif Express' which allows you to explore the whole region. There's a good beginners area and the instructors offer children and beginners alpine skiing.

Where to eat "La Table de Fifine" is a beautifully decorated wood panelled restaurant where the open fire and fresh local produce gives the ultimate dining experience. The menu includes fantastic duck, mouth watering vegetables and what has to be one of the worlds most sensational chocolate soufflé!

| Flaine

Flaine is the odd one out of the regions and resides as a purpose built, modern resort built in 1968. It features a range of contemporary architecture including an 'interesting' monument by the architect Marcel Breuer, of Baugaus art house fame.
The 1600 metres ski field has superb natural conditions, (snow making facilities have recently been developed) and fantastic wide open skiing. Flaine is a child friendly resort which also caters for advanced skiers. Above Flaine you can go to the Col de la Pierre Carree which at 1844 metres, offers one of the highest and best snow covered cross-country ski areas.
There are lots of alternative activities such as quad biking, snowmobiling, paragliding and rock climbing too, and for something more relaxing try snow shoeing, swimming or a nice warm sauna.

Morillons' fantastic ski field hosts a total of 265 km of slopes culminating at 2500 metres, 1000 acres of traced slopes and 75 ski lifts - all with great views of Mont Blanc. The area specialises in Nordic activities with trails for cross country skiing and lots of alpine runs, and features 'The Marvel' which is a 5 km long, wind down the mountains through forest and alpine. Antoine Deneiaz, www.antoine-deneriaz.com, who is a member of the French ski team and won the Alpine Ski Championships at the Val Gardena World Cup in 2003, is native to Morillon.
Morillon has a warm atmosphere typical to alpine villages and an ideal setting for families. There is a 'Children's Village' which consists of a nursery facilities and instructors catering from the age of 6 months to 10 years and the resort features a kids Jam Park.
Where to eat. "L'Igloo", situated half way up the slopes, has a buzzing atmosphere, a warm welcome and most importantly, a great range of food from home cooked burgers to cod fillet with capers!
