Sölden , Austria

Solden is most well-known for its nightlife, which tends to be quite rowdy. There are lots of bars and clubs for hectic nights out, with a largely German and Dutch clientele. The town isn't overly attractive and has spread down the valley over the years. Traffic is a slight problem, as are the varied locations of accommodation. Ideally, you'll want to be near the lifts, or you'll have a long walk/short bus journey. The skiing is on both sides of the valley and unconnected, which can be a bit of a hassle.

The skiing itself is great, particularly with the new lift-link to the Rettenbach glacier, which guarantees year-round skiing. Most of the runs favour intermediates, especially better ones, with experts only getting a limited amount. The beginner runs are inconveniently located above the village and, because they are low down, can suffer from poor snow cover. On the whole, most of the skiing is found at high altitude (above 2000m) so snow is usually reliable.

Overall, Solden offers plenty of après-ski and drinking, but that often overshadows the fact that the skiing is great for intermediate skiers.
