Obergurgl Resort Info

Obergurgl skiing

Obergurgl is great for beginners and intermediates, which, along with good ski schools, makes for an excellent family ski holiday destination. One of the highest resorts in Austria at 1930m, Obergurgl has an excellent snow record and long season. Linked to Hochgurgl, there are over 100km of runs to enjoy. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is often some nice off-piste to get that adrenalin pumping, although not much else…

Obergurgl ski resort

The resort itself is pleasing to the eye and offers a sense of alpine charm. Off snow activities are a little sparse, although après ski is jovial without being too hectic. Hotels are generally of a high standard, though there is a lack of independent restaurants (they are pretty much all part of the hotels).

Snow Overview - Austria  (snow news updated 24-Apr-2014)

Some excellent skiing conditions are available at the remaining open Austrian ski resorts. It is mostly the high altitude resorts that remain open and due to their height the snow is still well preserved. Kuhtai (60/90cm) is Austria’s highest skiing town and although it does not have the deepest base depths in Austria the skiing is excellent this week. Make the most of it though as they close for the season on Sunday 27th April. Good skiing can still be enjoyed in the Arlberg ski area, especially on the upper slopes. This is the last week of the season for this area too. Cloudy weather is forecast over the weekend and into next week. This is expected to bring rain to many locations, but snow could land higher up. Kaunertal (305/343cm) and Pitztal (239/322cm) are forecast the most snow, with over 60cm predicted to land at mid-mountain level by the end of next week.

European Weather Outlook

Cloudy skies will dominate over the weekend and next week in Europe. For skiers this is good news though as fresh snow is forecast. The greatest snowfall is predicted to hit resorts in Switzerland and Italy, with well over half a metre expected at the likes of Verbier, Zermatt, Saas Fee, Cervinia and Gressoney-la-Trinite. While less snow is expected to hit Austria and France, there should still be enough to provide some excellent late season skiing conditions.
