Obergurgl Resort Info
Obergurgl is great for beginners and intermediates, which, along with good ski schools, makes for an excellent family ski holiday destination. One of the highest resorts in Austria at 1930m, Obergurgl has an excellent snow record and long season. Linked to Hochgurgl, there are over 100km of runs to enjoy. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is often some nice off-piste to get that adrenalin pumping, although not much else…
Obergurgl ski resort
The resort itself is pleasing to the eye and offers a sense of alpine charm. Off snow activities are a little sparse, although après ski is jovial without being too hectic. Hotels are generally of a high standard, though there is a lack of independent restaurants (they are pretty much all part of the hotels).

Snow Overview - Austria (snow news updated 10-Mar-2014)
As you may expect at this time of year, sunny weather and spring conditions can be enjoyed across Austria. The higher up you go, and if you stick to north facing slopes, then the snow is in excellent condition. At the lower altitudes on south facing, sun exposed slopes you can expect firmly packed snow first thing in the morning that softens to provide spring riding conditions.
The higher altitude resorts of Pitztal (261/361cm) and Kaunertal (297/365cm) report the deepest snow bases of our featured Austrian resorts.
The Ski Club Leader in Obergurgl (74/156cm) this weekend reported that edge control was relatively easy at present with plenty of soft snow on the pistes. The Leader in Zell am See (10/103cm) reported that the snow on the upper slopes was in great condition, even in the afternoon, however the slopes on the way down were soft and heavy in the afternoon.
European Weather Outlook
The weather is forecast to remain mostly sunny across the European resorts this week, although there is some cloudier weather expected on Thursday 13th March. This could deliver fresh snow to Austria and Germany. The temperature is expected to rise for the start of next week with the freezing level expected to sit around 3,000m on Monday 17th March.
If you are after fresh snow then the Scandinavian resorts could be your best bet, as cloudy and snowy weather is forecast next weekend. Oppdal in Norway could receive almost 60cm of new snow by Tuesday 18th March.
