Many guests return annually to this friendly hotel for the warm atmosphere and welcome provided by the Gamper family, who also run the popular Nederhütte mountain hut. The Gamper is located just 100m from the main lifts and ski school meeting place.

Bedrooms: 43. Twins have shower and south-facing balcony; larger rooms have bath and seating area. Newly renovated pine furnished rooms have bath, seating area and balcony and junior suites have shower, lounge area and south-facing balcony. All rooms have digital tv, internet, telephone, radio, safe, hairdryer.

Meals: V Hot and cold buffet breakfast and 4 course dinner with choice of 3 main dishes plus salad buffet.

Facilities: Cosy lounge with bar and log fire; residents’ restaurant; sauna and steam room (free); free internet in lobby; lift.

Obergurgl skiing

Obergurgl is great for beginners and intermediates, which, along with good ski schools, makes for an excellent family ski holiday destination. One of the highest resorts in Austria at 1930m, Obergurgl has an excellent snow record and long season. Linked to Hochgurgl, there are over 100km of runs to enjoy. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is often some nice off-piste to get that adrenalin pumping, although not much else…

The resort itself is pleasing to the eye and offers a sense of alpine charm. Off snow activities are a little sparse, although après ski is jovial without being too hectic. Hotels are generally of a high standard, though there is a lack of independent restaurants (they are pretty much all part of the hotels).
