The Hotel Bergwelt is one of the top hotels in resort and offers the highest standards of food and service. Located above the resort centre, it is perfect for those looking for peace and relaxation and has striking views across the mountains. The hotel lies on a ski path, giving direct access to the lifts. It's a 5-minute walk to the resort centre and ski bus stop or an 8-minute walk to the nearest ski lift and ski school.

There is a bar/lounge with open fireplace, games room, spa with indoor and outdoor pool, steam rooms, fitness room, whirlpools and relaxation areas. Massage and beauty treatments are also available at a local charge. Meals are sumptuous and include a hot and cold buffet breakfast with brunch, served until 11.30am for those wanting a longer lie-in, 5-course evening meals with a choice of courses and salad buffet, plus weekly themed buffets.

All twin bedrooms feature private bath, WC, satellite TV, hairdryer, minibar and bathrobes. For that extra touch of luxury open plan suites with balcony are also available.

Obergurgl skiing

Obergurgl is great for beginners and intermediates, which, along with good ski schools, makes for an excellent family ski holiday destination. One of the highest resorts in Austria at 1930m, Obergurgl has an excellent snow record and long season. Linked to Hochgurgl, there are over 100km of runs to enjoy. For more advanced skiers and boarders, there is often some nice off-piste to get that adrenalin pumping, although not much else…

The resort itself is pleasing to the eye and offers a sense of alpine charm. Off snow activities are a little sparse, although après ski is jovial without being too hectic. Hotels are generally of a high standard, though there is a lack of independent restaurants (they are pretty much all part of the hotels).
