Hotel Pension Kumbichlhof   Mayrhofen , Austria 3 Stars

Our view: Great Location and a Warm Welcome at this Guesthouse!

We love the location of the Pension Kumbichlhof. Both the Ahorn and Penken gondolas are around five minutes on foot, along with the centre of town, but it's tucked away on a quiet sidestreet so you should be in for a peaceful night's sleep too.

Hotel Pension Kumbichlhof

Features

  • Bed and breakfast
This charming little family-run guesthouse has a really authentic and rustic farmhouse feel to it - typical of the Tirolean region. All the bedrooms have balconies and many overlook the mountains. Plus WiFi is available throughout although there's a small charge of around €5 per week.

Food wise you'll be offered a continental style breakfast buffet that should set you up nicely for each day out on the mountain - and as the Kumbichlhof is part of a working farm you may be treated to a few home-produced ingredients.

There's the good value option of upgrading to half board with 3-course meals taken in a local restaurant - alternatively stick with B&B as there are a few restaurants within a couple of hundred metres and many more towards the bottom of the highstreet.

Location

· 400m/4 minutes' walk to resort centre · 400m/5 minutes' walk to Ahorn gondola and ski bus stop · 550m/ 6 minutes' walk to Penken gondola

Rooms

All rooms have a flatscreen cable TV, extra charge for WiFi and are non-smoking.

Standard twin room with balcony - sleeps 2: Austrian twin beds, private bath or shower and WC.

Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.

Mayrhofen Resort Info

Mayrhofen skiing and boarding

Mayrhofen is the largest of the resorts covered by the 'Zillertal Superski' pass, with 101km of runs. The skiing in Mayrhofen itself is on two separate mountains but in 2006-7 a new cable car up to the Ahorn area was opened - making access much quicker and easier. Confident intermediates are best catered for, while better skiers can test their mettle on Penken’s challenging ‘black pistes’ - including the infamous Harakiri slope – while beginners, pleasure-seekers and carving enthusiasts can have the broad, sunny pistes of Ahorn all to themselves. Snowboarders will not find Mayrhofen the best place to learn, but the initiated can revel in the world class Vans Penken Park.

Mayrhofen ski resort

Mayrhofen itself is a town in its own right and therefore perhaps not as quintessentially "alpine" as a lot of Austrian resorts. However, the plethora of accommodation options, restaurants, off-snow activities, bars and nightclubs more than makes up for this. The Mayrhofen clientele is a mixture of young crowds looking for good nightlife and families looking to exploit the excellent child care facilities. Both of these are available and Mayrhofen manages to allow both sorts of holidays with neither group upsetting the other.
