Treble Cone was opened relatively recently (1976) to access some of New Zealand's most spectacular mountain terrain, with breathtaking views of the idyllic Lake Wanaka, 12 miles (19km) away. Around 56 miles (90km) from Queenstown, Treble Cone – named after a cluster of cone-shaped rocks on the summit – is regarded by many as the best ski area in New Zealand, rivalled only by Whakapapa and Mount Hutt.
