Do drink

Don't forget that drinking is an important part of having a good time on the slopes - and we don't mean at the bar afterwards! Here, Chris Williams gives his tips to keeping up your fluid intake.

The last thing on your mind while you're surrounded by all that snow is a good cool drink but you'll pay for it later if you neglect to keep up your water intake.

Always make sure you are well hydrated when you're exercising. As a rule of thumb, you should aim to drink at least two litres of water every day. (In fact the recommended level is drinking half your body weight in water a day!)

During exercise, and particularly if the activity is prolonged such as a day's skiing, drink approximately half a cup of water every 15 minutes.

Carry a small bottle of water with you at all times, even when you're not exercising and keep yourself topped up!

Chris Williams is an exercise physiologist and former Great Britain triathlete - check out his columns in www.Channelhealth.tv for more information.
